How to be Saved
It’s easy to do a soul search and look to the Bible to know one way or the other, if you’re saved. God says that He will not allow any sin into Heaven. That means if we have sinned anytime during our life then we’re lost (Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God). Romans 6:23 gives a message of dread as well as hope; a. For the wages of sin is death (this is both physical and spiritual), b. but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Some believe that if they are a good person then their good deeds will outweigh the bad ones. Truth, according to Ephesians 2:8-9, we can’t do enough good to get into heaven, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is a gift from God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” God knew that we would fall short so He did something about it (Romans 5:8, God shows His love for us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us). This is the only way out of going to Hell. It’s a choice to accept the free gift that God gave us, through the blood that was shed on the cross by Jesus Christ (God), so that our sins may be forgiven. There is no other Name under heaven that you can be saved by, except through Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).
Know that just repeating a prayer does not save you. It must be at the essence of your being that you believe and totally yield to Him, repenting and turning to the only way of salvation, the sacrifice that God the Son, Jesus Christ made for any who would turn to Him. We’ve all heard to “ask Jesus into your heart (soul)”. If it’s just saying a prayer, then you’re still just as lost as before, still headed to a very real Hell. John 3:16 sums it up this way “For God so loved the world (us) that He (God) gave His only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever (us) believes in Him should not perish (go to Hell) but have eternal life (go to heaven)”.
Jesus did the following:
- Born of a virgin
- Tempted in all areas of sin but did not sin
- Was accused and tried illegally for heresy in which He was innocent
- Went to a death sentence (the cross)
- Shed His own blood (God’s blood) to pay the penalty for all sin (Hebrews 9:22 no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood, Colossians 1:14, in whom we have redemption through His blood, for the forgiveness of sins).
- Became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21)
- Died and was buried and rose again on the 3rd day (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
- Ascended and is at the right hand of the Father (Ephesians 1:20-23)
- Jesus said “I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father (Heaven) but by Me”.
We must admit that we have a problem (sin), that we can’t save ourselves – to repent of our sin, that the only way is through Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12 there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved).
This is my attempt to give a way to pray;
Pray, Father I’m a sinner and can’t save myself (repent for sinning against God), I believe Jesus Christ, your Son, was born of the virgin, lived a sinless life, went to the cross, paid the penalty for my sin, shed his blood and became sin for me, taking the sin of the world on Himself. Died, was buried, rose again on the third day and is now seated at your right hand. Lord Jesus I ask that You save me from my sin and become my God and Savior and it is in Your name I pray, Amen.
If you’ve completely placed your trust in Jesus Christ’s work on the cross, then the next thing to do is get baptized. This is a symbol of who you now belong to. Jesus did command to be baptized (Matthew 28:19-20).
Lip service is worthless, it must be something that you believe and trust. To just recite a prayer (the sinners prayer) doesn’t save anyone, it must be a yielding of the heart, a turning away from sin and trusting in God alone for your salvation. Jesus is God.
Make an educated choice.
- Die in your sin and spend eternity in the Lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15)
Or
- Ask Christ to forgive you of your sins and ask Him into your heart (soul), letting Him make you clean, because of His sacrifice, thus God will allow you into His kingdom.
