Facts about the earthly mother of our Lord and Savior.
This is a subject that can’t be taken lightly. So many think of the earthly mother of Jesus in a huge light. We all agree that Mary was/is the most blessed woman of all history. Also, that she was picked from before the creation of the earth from all women to be used of God and that she was a virgin when Christ was born.
Please crack your Bible open and read these next verses for yourself.
People say that she was;
- a virgin her entire life
- sinless
- a mediator between God and mankind, to help pass our prayers forward to God
- birthed by an immaculate conception
- Matthew 1:24-25 says that Mary was a virgin “Until” after the birth of Christ.
- Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know (lay with) her “until” she had brought forth her firstborn Son. To “know” or to “lay with” is to have relations with his wife.
- Luke 1:46-47 – “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior”
Mary was a very devout Jew who was obedient to God and the Law. A very good person. But, if she was sinless then why would she need to have a Savior? You only need a Savior if you have a need to have your sins forgiven. She was way more aware of what sin was and was careful to stay away from it as much as humanly possible. Romans 3:23 says “all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God”. The only sinless person in history was Christ, no one else is mentioned anywhere in the bible.
- 1Timothy 2:5 – “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus”. According to the bible, Mary can’t be a mediator for us because there is only one.
- The “Immaculate conception” is to say that Mary was born without original sin, as are all humans. According to the Bible, the only one born without the stain of original sin was Jesus. The reason for this is that His Father wasn’t a human, but rather God, thus no original sin was passed down like the rest of us. Also, in order for Mary to have been born without original sin, her mother would have had to been over shadowed by the Holy Spirit also, to prevent the passing of original sin to her daughter. The Bible would’ve spoken on these, it doesn’t.
Another point is that if Mary was meant to be more prominent in scripture, then how come she’s not a central figure in the rest of scripture? To pray to Mary or any other human, and not directly to God, is to say that God allowed a person to receive some glory that is only meant for God.
My concern is this:
Some people look to Mary for prayers and help, when the fact is she was human and never mentioned as deity. God is clear that we are not to pray to any other but Him only. If we pray to Mary or any other, instead of God Himself, it is idolatry according to His Word. This would be to pray to a created being and not God.
In Revelation 22:8 – John wants to bow the knee and worship the angel that he thinks is God. But the angel tells him not to do that because he is a fellow creature. If the angel says that he is a fellow creature like John and that John is not to bow to him, then neither should anyone else bow to an angel or any creature so as to offer worship. Worship includes prayer. Therefore, no one should pray to any created thing.
Biblically, prayer is always offered to God and is a form of worship. All religions view prayer as an act of worship to their god(s) since they contain petitions, confession of sin, requests of intercession, etc.,–things which are received and answered by God and not by created things. Also, prayer is not the same thing as talking to someone face-to-face. Prayer is a humble petition to the Lord and not to a friend who’s in the same room with you or on the other end of the phone–or in heaven. Prayer is offered to God–never to anyone created. To do so is to offer worship that should only be directed to God, otherwise it is idolatry. Prayer should be offered only to God.
Keep in mind, God created Mary, so she can’t be the mother of God, who created her. Yes, Mary is the mother of Jesus (in His humanity), keeping in mind that Jesus is God.
So, God’s commands on how we are to pray and to Whom, is clear that it should only be to Him and never a human. Sainthood is according to the bible, is any born again believer in Jesus, not one appointed by a human church.
